COMMUNITY-BASED MENTORING PROGRAM

At Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Greater Sacramento Area, we believe in the power and promise of the next generation. Our community-based mentorship programs are designed to meet young people exactly where they are—right in their own neighborhoods.

These life-changing, one-to-one relationships rely on the collective support of our community. From professional volunteer screening and safety background checks to ongoing match support, it takes an entire network to help our youth thrive.

Explore how our Community-Based programs come to life below.

ONE-TO-ONE IN THE COMMUNITY

The core of community-based mentoring connects a youth ("Little") with a dedicated adult mentor ("Big") who meets 2 to 4 times a month out in the community. Together, they share everyday activities like hiking, exploring local Sacramento parks, grabbing a bite to eat, or working on life skills.

These consistent, casual interactions build a foundation of trust. By sharing ordinary moments, mentors provide the extra layer of guidance and friendship that helps local youth navigate life with confidence.

PROVEN IMPACT FOR SACRAMENTO YOUTH

These individual friendships drive massive collective outcomes for the Greater Sacramento area. When a community match is fully supported by our agency's framework, the structural impact speaks for itself.

Data shows that youth paired with a mentor are 55% more likely to go to college and 130% more likely to pursue leadership positions. Investing time or resources into a community match directly helps shape the future workforce of our neighborhoods.
